Sterling Pace Ming met at Emily Wiseman's house in Belton. Sterling and Henry
Wesson were friends. (Henry was Emily's brother.) Sterling got a job with the
Texas Oil Refinery. Sterling and Ora Lee married in the Baptist Parsonage in
Galveston, Texas. Zola Verkin stood up with them. After Ora Lee finished Mary
Hardin Baylor, she went to Austin and stayed a while with Emma (Van Dyke)
Potter but didn't like it so went home to Belton and went to work at Duke and
Ayers. She, Beulah and her mother went to Galveston to visit Zola and Ora Lee
got a job with Americam National Life Insurance Co. Ora, Beulah, Henry, and
Sterling doubledated. They went to a Czech dance. The lights burned out on the
car and they were late comming home. Daddy (Alvin Van Dyke) was waiting up for
them. They had driven home with no lights so Henry sat on the front fender
shining a flashlight on the road. That was the last dance they went to.
Sterling was working at a gin in Prairie Dell at the time. Rae quit school in
the 7th or 8th grade. Faxie Walton was the teacher and Rae couldn't stand her.
Ora Lee thought she was a fine teacher. This was in Sparta. The school house
was two story wood frame building with the younger students on the ground floor
and the older students on the second floor. The Church of Christ also held
services on the ground floor. Ora Lee finished the 10th grade but did not
finish the 11th. She went to Mary Hardin Baylor and took a business course.
Her daddy, Alvin Van Dyke, went to work for the rail road during a strike and
worked there until he got hurt. It was a head injury which put him in the
hospital. After that he moved back to Sparta to farm. Beulah and Henry ran off
to get married. He met her at school one afternoon and she went home, got her
clothes, and they left. After the ceremony they went to Prairie Dell where
Henry's mother was living. Mother and Daddy both died of a heart attack.
Mother had a cancerous growth removed from her face and it left her disfigured
for life. James Evans died at a friends house--John Kelly. "Granny" Wesson
lived in a two room house across from Emily's until she died."

The proper spelling for "Jose Phine" was provided by Pat E. O'Nan, 2460
Camrose Ave. San Jose, CA 95130. "The reason I spell my grandmother's name as
Jose Phine and not Josephine is that in the family Bible it is written Jose
Phine. Everyone else has a middle name, but she always told me she wasn't
given a middle name. After talking to Paul [Paul E. Ming] and other people, we
have decided that her middle mame was Phine. I don't think her parent's knew
the correct spelling of Josephine and listed her name as though it was a first
name and middle name of Jose Phine Ming."

own. In his marriage to Ellen, they had six children (including Elgie).
Later, for reasons unknown, Ellen married Thomas Ming who was my grandmother
Jose Phine Ming's uncle." Note: This would be Thomas Samuel Ming, son of
