[T7] !Michael lives in Williamsburg, Va. He is searching Mingas. He is one of the
members of the Minga family orginization began 3-93

[T8] MEK records
He is still living in Noxubee Co. Miss in 1993
He was a farmer and served in WW 11

[T9] Betty lives and works in Raleigh area (works in Archives). She is searching
Minga, Hartwell (father Nura of Va.) She knows a lady who has written a book
about the Shearins. Not too interested in being a member of Minga family
organization..I will still send her info.

[T11] !He had a delayed birth certificate. JMB (daughter) was told that he was named
General Joe Wheeler Mingia. This may have been a General in the civil war?

[T12] 1st marriage to Norma Lee Potts
children of that marriage
Patricia Carol
Michael Allen
These two children sealed to Joanne and Leroy Burch

[T13] !JMB 1st marriage to Gladys Varner 11 Oct 1952 divorced
Children of that marriage
Sandra Lynn (Sandy)
Deshon (Shonnie)
David
Married 2nd time JMB needs dates and name

Married 3rd time JMB needs dates and name
Nickname "Lad"

[T14] !Marriage was 21 Nov 1888 place Faucette Township (Brown marriage Register)
When I spoke with Lonnie Hux (who knew Sam) 4-3-93, he said Sam was married to
Moshie. Moshie was Sam's daughter. Lonnie said Moshie was as old as Sam so
there could have been another Moshie..cousin, or relative like a sister in law
maybe?

[T16] !Do not know which way Boseman was spelled (Bosman)
JMB (grandaughter) was told that the Bosemans came to N C from Emporia Va.
There were Cook relatives too JMB was told

[T17] Greatgranddaughter (Joanne Mingia Burch) was told that this family was from
Elizabeth City. I do not know that for sure.

[T18] !This would be Rosa's husband. JMB (G granddaughter) is not sure. Could not
find G.D. yet

[T19] !She was called Rosie Lee also. I (JMB) believe that she may not have been a
Minga until
her marriage. If she was she married a Minga. Death certificate says her father
was Jessie T.Green (Jessie Green was Martha, wife of Thomas' father) and motherwas Martha Green (not sure of Green her maiden name).Bible says that Rosa's
mother was Martha Greene Mingay (married to Thomas A. Mingay) There was a
mistake
on Rosa's

death certificate. It stated that she was " col".I (JMB) talked to Wheeler Hux
who knew Rosa said that Rosa was white. He pointed to a grove of trees in the
middle of a field beside Edna Hux's house and said she is buried there. That
mistake on the death certificate is one of the reasons
that I (JMB) was stopped in my shearch. When I found her in census in 1850 as a
white child of 8 yrs in the Tom Minga household. In the 1860 census, she was
listed as the 2nd white adult
(seamstress) with M.E. Minga as head of house. Thomas A. died 31 Aug 1859
between the 50 & 60 census.In the 1870 census, Rosa C. was 28, white and 2nd adult with Martha E
as head of house. This age would have made her birth 1842. Bible says she was
born 1840.I believe the C stood for Catherine
This has been a real confused place. What could straighten it out would be that
Martha E. Mingay could have been the Martha Green that is listed on Rosa's
death certificate. Martha could have brought her child or sister Rosa to the marriage to
Tom Mingay. This is just speculation. The family bible has Rosa C. as the 2nd
adult child born 28 May 1840. The death certificate says born 1834. To have been
85
as it says on her death cert. she would have had to been born in 34. I suppose
there could have been two Rosas.

[T26] I believe my (JMB) grandfather was married to her when he died.

[T27] !JMB met Reverand Minga. He looked a lot like my father. He lived in Dallas and
it was about 1977 because his wife had just died. I have a copy of his military
Record and report of separation. His home addres was Honey Grove Texas. He gave
as permanent address 409 E. 10th St, Georgetown, Texas. He was a chaplin and a
Captain. JMB has group sheet he filled out and a history written by his father,
it is not signed but it talks about T H Minga being born. JMB has newspaper
artical of his mothers (Mrs. N.C.Minga) death the Friday before the 17 which
would be 13 Apr 1942.
I do not know where the N.C. comes from as TH listed his mother as Mary
Sanders.
His fathers name was John so N.C. doesn't fit. Notes on John Minga lists people
and places he speaks of in his history. The people that T H speaks of in last
paragraph where he is writting of his fathers history are: Uncle Valca at
Williamson Co.Tex., Uncle Neal, Murph Minga, Aunt Fannie perhaps in Nettleton.

[T31] When I (JMB) met Rev. Minga it was after his wife died in 1976. She was a well
known poet

[T32] Lived with daughter Mrs Coll W. Chism when he died John Mingas grandfather and
grandmother were still alive in 1908 because John and Mary built a house next
to them then near Nettleton Ms. Murph Minga owned a house north of Nettleton in
Oct of 1917 which John Minga rented.

[T34] I have a sheet that Rev. Minga made and it said at the top..Rev. Mingas
mothers family. He listed:
John Tyler (sp) Young husband
Meluine Dabbs wife
His mother was a Sanders. I do not know if this was grandparents.

[T35] !REH records
JMB is sure this is ansester

[T36] !Martha could have brought Green land to the Minga family. That land is across
the road from the Minga land. Greens gave land to the Ebenizer Methodist Church
for building. I wonder if Rosa could have been Green and married a Minga? If
she was born in 1834 as it says on the death cert., she was only 13 years
younger than Martha and could have been a sister or even a child of Marthas as
it shows on the group sheet of Thomas and Martha Mingay.?

[T38] !This sheet came from Richard Hunter and that sources of information were Minga
family bible, Warren Co marriage bonds, Halifax co. marriage bonds
Beths records Birth extimate ..birth of Wm. T.
Carpenter (Warren Co. N.C. 1813) Death date Halifax Co. deed 10 Nov 1847
JMB is sure this is ancester.. 29 on Census 1820 says that he was born
1791 King chart says born 1785-1790? Married to Nickols or Neville

[T40] !Do not know surname or birth. Beths records say Nickols or Neville.( JMB would
choose Neville because of other overlaping Nevilles in Minga family.) Death date
comes from inventory Halifax Co NC (Beth)
There was a gift deed to Elizabeth (Ambroses wife) by Sarah Cheatham of Halifax
Co. (Halifax Co. DB 32 pg. 433) dated 10 Nov 1847. Sarah Cheatham was a Norman.
Sally Norman married James Cheatham #4629, 26 Nov 1829. Sally could have been a
sister to Lydia Norman (wife of Dudley Minga, Jr) George Norman's will
(Granville Co. WB 11 pg 136)

[T43] !BEK records say that her name is spelled Evaline and marriage is 2-Nov
1849
REH records say that her name is spelled Eveline and the marriage is year 1842
Need to have what record says. King chart says married in Halifax others say
Miss.

[T44] !REH records
1st Wilmouth M. Whitaker 18 April 1833 was this date in bible? What for?
REM records say that John D. L. 's daughter named her son..John Dudley
Merritt. Could
John's D stand for Dudley? Ambrose had a brother Dudley that both could havebeen named for? We are searching for Ambrose and Dudleys beginnings. This
John may have been the one living next door to Williamson(#97) on the 1830
census.
There was a John Minga who had a child born in Williamson Co. Texas??? Don't
know which John JMB

[T47] !Alexander's occupation was Overseer. He was married twice. 2nd to Evaline
Shearin 2 Nov 1849. Same records as Abners notes. Other records from Bible
MEK records
Alexander and Eveline were in Lowndes Co, Miss by the 1850 census ..King chart
says marriage was 12 Sept 1832 other records say 13 Sept 1832

[T49] !REH records

[T50] !REH records say this marriage was 2 Oct 1832
BEK records say this marriage was 2 Nov 1849
Group sheet say this marriage was 25 Sept 1832
Which???

[T51] !There are 2 (Two) Richard W. Mingas. One was son of Ambrose the other son of
Thomas A. Minga

[T52] Records same as Abners notes

[T53] !REH records

[T54] !This marriage appears in the bible with date of 2 Oct. 1832 and on the marriage
bonds in Warren Co. 25 Sept 1832.
BEK has this marriage record as 2 Nov. 1849
Which is right?

[T55] Other names are not clear one looks like Coryseder. She may not be a Minga
because there is another Sarah

[T56] Married Alex Hudson(his second marriage) who had been married to Lundys sister,
Martha E.V.... Lundy's name is on JMB's father's birth certificate as mid-wife

[T57] Spelling looks like Magor instead of Minga There are 2 (two) Richard W. Mingas.
One was son of Ambrose and the other son of Thomas

[T58] Alex Hudson was married to Lundy after Martha died. so Martha died between 1876
and 1882

[T59] Alex married Martha #46 then her sister Lundy #43 2nd when Martha died.
Records of the children from both marriages were from KEH

[T60] !same as his father John Mingge

[T61] !This record came from Beth Koostra's records taken from 1850 census and
marriages 1830-1868 Lowndes Co. Ms
Military Service..Co.B, 43rd Miss Inf CSA. MEK records say his occupation was
" Negro Manager". 2nd marriage was after 1870 census to Jane Ireland
King chart says he died April.. preceding records said March ?

[T63] Same records as Abners notes

[T64] Same records as Abner A. in his notes

[T65] !Indiana and Missouri must have been girl twins. Records same as Abners notes
JMB added birth and death dates from Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, Miss

[T66] Records same as Abners notes

[T67] Records same as Abners notes

[T68] !Records same as Abners notes. I believe Lindsay and Senora were girls but not
sure of Lindsay

[T69] !Records same as Abners notes. She died between 1866 and 1870. She had child in
1866 and she was not on the 1870 census

[T70] From marriages in Lowndes Co. Ms. do not know birthplace etc.

[T71] !Litha was age 60 in 1841 (Beths records) Last name is questionable
Nichols/Neville ???? King says that she died 1841 at age 61 and that he
believes the last name is Nichols 9-95.

[T72] !BEK Other Wms Thomas had Wm L, Abner had Wm, Alexander had Wm. Also Wm Minga
Swoope
Virginia R. Harris, grandaughter age 17, was living with Wm T and Martha on the
1880 census
REH records Will dated 20 April 1887 Probated 14 July 1890 (will book U p 503)

[T74] !Beths records.. Richards has Martha Ann (from Shearin family maybe)

[T75] Beths records..not in Richards

[T76] !4 in Minga family married Shearins
REH marriage date from Halifax Co NC Bk 10 p. 24 M book
The initial "B" comes from the death record of Martha A. who was the unmarried
child of Wm T and Martha Shearin. This death record was in Hickory and the
informant was H.W. Minga who was the son of Wm. T. and was also in Hickory on 7
Jan 1918 when his sister died. Maybe a search of that area would help. JMB
called (5-93) Hickory for a phone of Minga and there was none.

[T78] This child is only called sister in the history. JMB believes that Williamson
Co was in Texas. HT's mother died in Nettleton Ms.

[T79] Meluine is the best that I can read the writing

[T90] !Southside Families of Virginia

Handwritten notes in margin of copy of Southside Families of Virginia:
"Orphans of Jesse Green Decd. 1830
Lenore? William, Martha (m. Wm Minge) and Sarah
Halifax Co. N. C. D.B. 28, p 199 D.B. 73, p. 295"

If these handwritten notes are correct, it will change Martha Green's husband
to Wm. Minge instead of Thomas Minge...Could she have been married a second
time ????? To what Wm. Minge????

WMM records show she was married to Thomas Minge, Thomas had a brother Wm who
was 13 years older (he was married to Martha Shearin) Martha and Thomas had a
son Wm.
Need to check the Deed books again to see
Hazel Fosters records say that Jesse Green died about 1830

Book "They Fought"

[T99] !Same notes as brother James
Her death was from pneumonia in Hickory, N.C. the informant was H.W. Minga who
was her brother Henry
She was listed as Martha Ann on the 1860 census. It seems that she took a few
years off her age by the 1880 census

[T101] !Same notes as brother James

[T102] !Same notes as brother James

[T103] !Same notes as brother James
Civil War Data
Henry Minga..Co A, 1st Junior Reserves
Henry was informant when his sister (Martha A.) died in Hickory, N.C. He would
have been about 72yrs. at that time

[T104] !Records of REH. Dudley Minga Sr. was closely connected to Ambrose and his
family. Dudley may
have been Ambroses brother because on 16 Oct. 1855, Dudley gives "for love and
affection to my neice Eliza A. Pittard" of Halifax County 241 acres.(HalifaxCo.DB 34 p.114) Eliza Ann
(married to Wm. Jesse Pittard) was daughter of Ambrose. Dudley Minga was first
in Granville County N.C. in 1808 and moved to Warren in 1832. On 9 Feb 1832
Dudley
Minga of Warren Co. sells the 125 acres in Granville that he bought 2 Nov. 1824
(Granville Co. N.C.-DB 2 p. 247 and DB 6 p. 18)
Granville Co. N.C. marriage bond for Dudley Mingey to Nancy Norwood 27 Aug
1799. #4590
JMB needs to find father of Dudley and Ambrose Minga. Granville Co record 38
says he was born 1782

[T108] Dudley Minga's will ( Warren Co. WB 49 p 131) dated 10 May 1845, leaves property
to Williamson
Minga, Williamson could have been Dudley Jr's son.
REH records.
There is a need to clear up which Dudley did what.
Richard Minga could have been son of Dudley.. He is not Ambrose son as this
Richard was in Halifax Co. 21 March 1945.(REH record) He is not the right age
to be the
Richard who is son of Thomas and Martha Mingay. Please correct this if the date
1945 is wrong. I suspect the date was 1845, in that case he could be son of
Dudley.

[T111] The first name could be Lidey or Lidia not sure which REH records.

[T112] The bible shows that he is the son of Richard and Sally Minga.. REH records.

[T113] !REH records
Williamson was listed on Dudley Minga's will (Book 49 pg. 131,
chandged birth (08/09) & death(59/59) date WBB records
1 Wills) also his daughter, Callydonia. Martha D. was listed too. She could have
been Williamson's wife. His wife was Martha A.
Williamson Mingea is how it was spelled on the marriage bond. Jesse Pittard was
witness.
On the marriage bond it says married 22 May, 1834. Mrs Rom B. Parkers account
says 23 May 1834. Williamson is spelled Williamston on the marriage bond
(Warren Co.)
He could have been Dudleys son
WBB records have Williamson's first name Oliver (in a letter from Mrs. Mary
Sledge Scruggs who was the daugher of Martha Williamson Mingea, Wilton Egerton
Mingea's sister)
Burial place in the cemetery was Sq. 2, Sec. 8, Ward B. New Ground
Williamson is listed "Minga" on 1840 VA census. Next door to him lives John
Minga (John Rin #29 was Ambrose's son and was born 1808/1809 and may be the one
who lived next door to Williamson) 1850 Va census lists John and Williamson
,both as
41 years of age. Question is could they have been twins? It is more likely that
they were cousins. Both were carpenters.

[T119] She was listed on the will of Dudley Minga as daughter of Williamson Minga
(Book 49 pg. 131 Warren Co. 1 Wills 1 Sept. 1857) REH records.
She is listed as child of Williamson Mingea on account of Mrs Rom B Parker sent
to JMB by REH

[T120] !JMB Went from Va. to Halifax Co. MWM records

Sarah Perkins deeded to Lewis D. Browing a tract of 111 acres to be held in

County, N.C. in 1848. During the Revolution, he volunteered and served under
Capt. Frank Jones in Halifax county. In the spring "of the year before the
fight at Guilford" he was placed under the command of Capt. Poynter at Halifax
Town guarding prisoners. Later he was in the Battle of Guilford Court House and
the Battle of Camden.
On March 26, 1824, George Green gave a lot to the M.E. Church out of his
regard for the said church, "it being the lot on which Ebeneezer Church now
stands" (D.B. 31,p 220) Although the deed would seem to indicate that the
church was of recent origin, it was one of the oldest Methodist Churches in the
County, being established before 1787 when Methodism was very young.
At the time of his death George Green's wife was Mary___. It is thought that
she was his second wife but this in not proven."

Account from book"Town Leaders Littleton, N.C. 1790-1920", Becky Dozier says:

Howard Benjamin (1854-1907) married Ellen Pierce Mingia (1858-1938) of
Petersburg, Va.,around 1876. They had two daughters and two sons, with only the
sons, ben and Wilton, living to adulthood. Howard was one of Littleton's first
town commissioners, elected in 1883. He owned and operated the large mercantile
store which his father and Jesse L. Shaw owned. His son Ben reclaled in 1976
how he would go to New York with his father when he was a young boy and ride
around the city in a street car drawn by a horse. Howard usually went to New
York in the fall for mercantile to sell in his general store. He and Ellen
bought the Pitt House, located on Spring Street, and there they lived until
their new home, which they were building next door to the pitt House, was
completed. The Browning House was commpleted in 1907, and since it was about
the time of Howard's death, he never had a chanch to enjoy his new home. (See
Shaw, Bobbitt family schetches in the same book.)

[T456] !JMB from Vol.2, No 1..Joseph Ming entereded N.C.(Bath) in 1701-1702 These
Mings are somehow connected.
There was a ford by the name of Minge, Mynge was a spelling back as far as
dates in 100's aroung 300

[T457] !JMB Sarah was a widow by 1707. In Oct Sarah indentured her son, Nathaniel, to
Christopher Gale (a land owner in Bath, NC)

[T458] !JMB Joseph and Thomas came to Bath, NC with their father in 1700-1702
JMB is assuming that he was 1st born to carry his fathers name

[T459] !JMB(from Vol.1, No2)Thomas came to Bath N.C. with father and brother Joseph in
1700-1702. Purchased
!100 acres from William Eagerton. Witnessed deed in 1735, paid tax in Chowan
County,NC. in 1735. In 1737 he helped survey land for John Pratt. In 1740 he
sold 100 acres to brother Nathaniel. Thomas was living at Beaver Dam on Yoppin
River in Chowan County. He was a miller and owned the Pratt mill until 1768.
Thomas (son of Thomas) applied for the right to administer the estate of his
father in 1710
!In June of that year Thomas's estate was sold. It was devided 4 ways,
widow Sarah, daughter Sarah and heirs of son Thomas (wife Elizabeth Leary).
Ebenezer Leary was a grandson of Thomas

[T462] !JMB Could this be the nephew to James Minge #115 on computer who was a survyor
in 1705? Compare #115 and #419 (could be brothers) Dates are right & were
adults at same time. He might have been an older brother to Thomas and Joseph
who came to Bath NC with their father in 1700. Anothe possibility is that
Joseph #419 and James #115 could be cousins.
! Could this child of Joseph been named after a brother of
Joseph Ming? #115? The dates would be right for Joseph #419 and James #115 to
be brothers. They were both active adults in 1700's. Records in Va. Colonial
Abstracts show James Minge was a surveyor in 1695. In Pioneers and Cavaliers,
James Mingay was a Leadright (sp) and in 1695 he was granted 2317 acres in New
Kent Co. Va.
!JMB needs varification of one of the above. I really believe that these are
relatives. Even if they spell the name leaving off the"e". This same family
spells the name MANY ways. The name Ming, Mings Myngs Mynge, Mindge or Mings can
be found in various parts of the south and east of England, but most often in
Kent where it appeared on the subsidy rolls as early as 1348.
